Some kids around there didn't have shoes to wear, and I don't know how their feet didn't get ripped right off by all the thorns and mean little bushed all around. We had a rough enough time keeping our feet thorn-free with shoes! These kids did have shoes, which as you can see, don't look like shoes we know. These are called Firestones, because they are made from Firestone tires.
that is basically amazing. they should start a diy webpage about making shoes.

@Rags: Now I'm very curious to know how and why you used to wear shoes like that. Did you grow up in Kenya or some other part of Africa? Tell me about where you used to live. That picture was taken deep into Samburu District in Kenya, just outside of a town called Wamba.
